Journaling your day

Journaling in the traditional sense was done as a way to keep track of all that one did during a given day, major events or actions performed or general thoughts emotions ideas and musings about their present tie and the world around them. If you’re planning to start journaling as a way to keep track of your days, then here’s a list of tips on how to do just that:

Write about any moment that comes to mind.

You don’t have to be super detailed with it. There’s so much that happens throughout the day and it would take just as long to keep track of all that happens. It’s okay to only focus on the big events, the ones that you can remember. Eg., I went to the grocery store today, they had or took a trip to the post office, but they were closed so I went out to lunch instead.

Don’t stress about the moments in between, the ones you can’t remember

Write in chronological order

Start from the beginning of your day and work your way to the present. Or work back from the present moment to when your day started.

Write only the main things you can remember.

Focus on one or two main events. Say you’re doing a writing challenge to stay consistent by journaling everyday, writing about only one thing is a low barrier to entry. It’s not too overwhelming or you’re not scared off by the length of time you’d have to spend writing.

Write in one sitting. (at the end of the day or early next morning)

It’s just more time effective to sit down at one time and write down what your day was like, as opposed to writing down each individual action as you do it. It’s kind of like going somewhere and stopping to take a selfie or photo in the middle of everything that happens. It kind of hitches the flow of things. But, if you do fins time, a space during your day where you want to fit in a bit of journaling go right ahead. Follow your creative spirit.

Don’t overthink it.

Just go with the flow. Write whatever comes to mind. Your journal is yours, so write according to how things come to you not to meet some ideal standard.
